How to Use

For Aromatherapy

Add about 4-5 drops of Iryasa Tea Tree oil for every 100ml (3.3 fl.oz) of water in your diffuser to cleanse & purify the air and prevent the spread of infectious diseases.

You may need to increase/decrease the number of drops depending on the size of the room and where your diffuser is kept. For instance, you'd probably need less number of drops for a smaller or less ventilated room. Since the intensity of scents are such a personal preference, we recommend that you start with less and work your way up as needed.

For Topical Application

Tea Tree oil is an excellent remedy for acne. Dilute 8 drops of 100% pure Tea Tree oil in 30ml (1 fl.oz) of Jojoba oil to make a 1% dilution. Regularly apply a few drops of this blend on the concerned area.

Safety Precautions

General Precautions

  • All Iryasa Essential Oils are highly concentrated - always dilute with an appropriate carrier oil before topical use

  • Not for internal use, except if directed by an expert or a qualified practitioner

  • Never use undiluted essential oils near eyes or mucous membranes

  • Store in a cool, dark and dry place

  • Keep out of reach of children

  • If pregnant, lactating or under any medication, consult your physician before use

Specific to Tea Tree Essential Oil

  • We always recommend performing a patch test, especially if you are using Tea Tree oil for the first time on your skin.
  • Tea Tree oil may cause sensitisation if old or oxidised. Always ensure that the cap is tightly closed after use.
  • Do not use this oil undiluted. Although many will tell you to use undiluted Tea Tree oil for “spot treatment”, we always recommend that you blend with a suitable carrier oil as it helps avoid skin irritation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it safe to use Tea Tree essential oil in cosmetic products?

It is perfectly safe to use, if properly stored and handled. While some may have faced issues like skin sensitisation, it occurs mainly due to oxidisation. So, it is important to store Tea Tree oil in a cool, dark place and ensure that the cap is tightly closed.

Many books, websites and practitioners suggest using Tea Tree oil 'neat'. Why do we need to dilute this oil?

Often Tea Tree oil is used undiluted on small areas of the skin as an 'acne spot treatment'. It has been known to prevent acne from getting worse. However, we always recommend diluting Tea Tree essential oil in a suitable carrier oil as undiluted use will result in hardening of the pimple due to the drying nature of this oil which then further leads to delayed healing of the bump and scar.

What are the main constituents of Tea Tree Essential Oil?

Tea Tree essential oil contains monoterpene-alcohols and sesquiterpenes-alcohols. They give Tea Tree oil the qualities of being an antiseptic, bactericidal, antifungal, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, anti-allergenic, diuretic and an immune stimulant.

Dilution Guide

Most websites/blogs mention about diluting essential oils before topical application. While this is correct, it is not sufficient!

Use the guide below to get started on your DIY blending journey.

Interpreting the charts

Step 1: As per age group, please take note of the recommended and maximum dilution percentages.

Step 2: Based on the amount of carrier oil, you can find the corresponding number of essential oil drops to be used to achieve the dilution you require e.g., for 1% dilution in 30ml of carrier oil, use 8 drops of same/different essential oils.

Precautions

Always perform a 24 hour period patch test at the recommended dilution levels or lesser, as per the age group to check for any allergic reaction or skin sensitivities.

While the dilution percentages work for most of our essential oils, we strongly recommend that you read the safety precautions listed for each oil before you craft the blend.
