How to Use

For Aromatherapy

To soothe your emotions and balance your mood swings, add about 3-5 drops of Iryasa Bergamot essential oil for every 100ml (3.3 fl.oz) of water in a diffuser.

You may need to increase/decrease the number of drops depending on the size of the room and where your diffuser is kept. For instance, you'd probably need less number of drops for a smaller or less ventilated room. Since the intensity of scents are such a personal preference, we recommend that you start with less and work your way up as needed.

For Topical Application

When diluted with a suitable carrier oil such as Jojoba oil or Sweet Almond oil, Bergamot oil makes for an excellent massage oil for muscle pain relief or works as a facial oil/serum to clear congested skin.

Use 4 drops in 15ml (0.5 fl.oz) carrier oil (to make ~1% dilution).

Safety Precautions

General Precautions

  • All Iryasa Essential Oils are highly concentrated - always dilute with an appropriate carrier oil before topical use

  • Not for internal use, except if directed by an expert or a qualified practitioner

  • Never use undiluted essential oils near eyes or mucous membranes

  • Store in a cool, dark and dry place

  • Keep out of reach of children

  • If pregnant, lactating or under any medication, consult your physician before use

Specific to Bergamot Essential Oil

  • We always recommend performing a patch test, especially if you are using Bergamot oil for the first time on your skin.
  • Bergamot oil may cause irritation to sensitive skin if oxidised (exposed to the elements). Therefore, always keep the cap tightly closed.
  • After topical application of Bergamot oil, avoid immediate exposure to direct sunlight or a sunbed to reduce the chances of phototoxicity.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does Bergamot oil cause irritation to sensitive skin?

Bergamot oil (Citrus bergamia) contains limonene which when exposed to air, gets oxidised. This oxidised limonene may cause dermal irritation to people with sensitive skin. This is why it is important to store this oil in a dark bottle away from direct sunlight. Always keep the cap tightly closed after using the product.

How is this essential oil extracted? Which solvent is used?

Bergamot essential oil is extracted by cold pressing the rind (peel). There is no solvent used for the extraction process.

What is Bergamot FCF?

Bergamot FCF (Furanocoumarin-free) is also known as “Bergapten-free” Bergamot which is a rectified version of the essential oil that has its phototoxic components removed through further processing. However, the aroma of the FCF version is not as pure & natural compared to the original/whole oil. Our Bergamot Essential Oil (Citrus bergamia) is not FCF which is why we clearly state in our safety information to avoid immediate exposure to direct sunlight upon topical application.

Dilution Guide

Most websites/blogs mention about diluting essential oils before topical application. While this is correct, it is not sufficient!

Use the guide below to get started on your DIY blending journey.

Interpreting the charts

Step 1: As per age group, please take note of the recommended and maximum dilution percentages.

Step 2: Based on the amount of carrier oil, you can find the corresponding number of essential oil drops to be used to achieve the dilution you require e.g., for 1% dilution in 30ml of carrier oil, use 8 drops of same/different essential oils.

Precautions

Always perform a 24 hour period patch test at the recommended dilution levels or lesser, as per the age group to check for any allergic reaction or skin sensitivities.

While the dilution percentages work for most of our essential oils, we strongly recommend that you read the safety precautions listed for each oil before you craft the blend.
