How to Use

For Aromatherapy

Add about 8-10 drops of Iryasa Clary Sage essential oil for every 200ml (6.7 fl.oz) of water in a diffuser to calm your emotions & irritations and balance your mood. It also helps reduce stress and is known to impart a grounding & centering effect.

You may need to increase/decrease the number of drops depending on the size of the room and where your diffuser is kept. For instance, you'd probably need less number of drops for a smaller or less ventilated room. Since the intensity of scents are such a personal preference, we recommend that you start with less and work your way up as needed.

For Topical Application

Diluted with a suitable carrier oil such as Jojoba oil or Sweet Almond oil, it can be used as a facial oil to help clear acne, soothe boils and inflammations.

We recommend using 6-8 drops of Iryasa Clary Sage essential oil in 30ml (1 fl.oz) of carrier oil (to make 0.5-1% dilution). For sensitive skin, use 2-3 drops in 30ml carrier oil (to make 0.3-0.5% dilution).

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is Clary Sage essential oil known as “The Women’s Oil”?

A wonderfully balancing oil, Clary Sage is perfect to ease hormonal discomfort. It is well known for its ability to regulate hormonal cycles, modulate menstrual flow and relieve painful cramps & spasms in the uterus. It also eases symptoms of menopause like hot flashes, dizziness, headaches, night sweats and palpitations.

Can I apply Clary Sage oil directly on my skin?

Absolutely not! While we recommend diluting all our essential oils in a suitable carrier oil, Clary Sage does pose a moderate risk of skin sensitisation for some people and hence it is recommended to dilute about 6 drops in 30ml (1fl.oz) of carrier oil (e.g. Coconut oil) and for people with sensitive skin, we recommend using about 2-3 drops in 30ml (1 fl.oz) of carrier oil.

Where does Clary Sage get its name from?

Clary Sage gets its name from the Latin word “Clarus,” which means “clear”, “clarifying” or “cleansing”. In the Middle Ages, the seeds of this herb were soaked in water and believed to contribute to the health of eyes. The liquid was used as an eye treatment wash, to clear mucous from the eyes and improve vision.

Dilution Guide

Most websites/blogs mention about diluting essential oils before topical application. While this is correct, it is not sufficient!

Use the guide below to get started on your DIY blending journey.

Interpreting the charts

Step 1: As per age group, please take note of the recommended and maximum dilution percentages.

Step 2: Based on the amount of carrier oil, you can find the corresponding number of essential oil drops to be used to achieve the dilution you require e.g., for 1% dilution in 30ml of carrier oil, use 8 drops of same/different essential oils.

Precautions

Always perform a 24 hour period patch test at the recommended dilution levels or lesser, as per the age group to check for any allergic reaction or skin sensitivities.

While the dilution percentages work for most of our essential oils, we strongly recommend that you read the safety precautions listed for each oil before you craft the blend.
