How to Use

For Aromatherapy

Add about 4-5 drops of Iryasa Grapefruit essential oil for every 100ml (3.3 fl.oz) of water in a diffuser. This tangy, refreshing scent is very comforting and will brighten up your day and rejuvenate your mind, body & soul.

You may need to increase/decrease the number of drops depending on the size of the room and where your diffuser is kept. For instance, you'd probably need less number of drops for a smaller or less ventilated room. Since the intensity of scents are such a personal preference, we recommend that you start with less and work your way up as needed.

For Topical Application

When diluted with a suitable carrier oil such as Jojoba oil or Sweet Almond oil, it is effective in treating wounds, cuts, bruises, acne and other microbial infections.

Use 8 drops of pure Grapefruit oil in 30ml (1 fl.oz) of carrier oil to make a 1% dilution.

Safety Precautions

General Precautions

  • All Iryasa Essential Oils are highly concentrated - always dilute with an appropriate carrier oil before topical use

  • Not for internal use, except if directed by an expert or a qualified practitioner

  • Never use undiluted essential oils near eyes or mucous membranes

  • Store in a cool, dark and dry place

  • Keep out of reach of children

  • If pregnant, lactating or under any medication, consult your physician before use

Specific to Grapefruit Essential Oil

  • We always recommend performing a patch test, especially if you are using Grapefruit oil for the first time on your skin
  • Grapefruit oil may cause skin sensitisation if it is old or oxidised so always keep the cap tightly closed to avoid oxidation.
  • Grapefruit oil presents a low risk of phototoxicity compared to some other citrus oils like Bergamot, Lemon and Sweet Orange. Therefore, it can be used as a substitute for up to 4% dilution, especially if the skin is to be exposed to sunlight.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are some of the different ways I can use Grapefruit Essential Oil?

Grapefruit essential oil has a naturally potent & refreshing scent, making it a clean, plant-based deodoriser. Make your own car air freshener with a couple of drops of this oil on a felt ball attached to a string and tie it to your rear view mirror. The fresh, sweet, citrus aroma will keep you cheerful through your ride!

I can’t drink Grapefruit juice because it interferes with my medication. Will Grapefruit essential oil do the same?

Grapefruit juice contains dihydroxybergamottin, a chemical that is known to interfere with many different medications. However, it is not contained in the cold-pressed essential oil, so it is safe to use Grapefruit essential oil for aromatherapy and topical applications (when diluted appropriately) for those who need to avoid the juice.

For topical application, always perform a patch test to ensure no allergies or sensitivities to this oil and consult a physician before use especially if you are on regular medication.

Is Grapefruit essential oil good for the hair?

Yes! Grapefruit's astringent properties are perfect for clarifying an oily scalp and keeping your hair non-greasy, shiny & healthy.

Create your own DIY hair serum by diluting Grapefruit Essential Oil with Tamanu oil or Fractionated Coconut oil. This bespoke blend can be massaged into the scalp and applied on the lengths of towel-dried hair for glossy, frizz-free hair.

Dilution Guide

Most websites/blogs mention about diluting essential oils before topical application. While this is correct, it is not sufficient!

Use the guide below to get started on your DIY blending journey.

Interpreting the charts

Step 1: As per age group, please take note of the recommended and maximum dilution percentages.

Step 2: Based on the amount of carrier oil, you can find the corresponding number of essential oil drops to be used to achieve the dilution you require e.g., for 1% dilution in 30ml of carrier oil, use 8 drops of same/different essential oils.

Precautions

Always perform a 24 hour period patch test at the recommended dilution levels or lesser, as per the age group to check for any allergic reaction or skin sensitivities.

While the dilution percentages work for most of our essential oils, we strongly recommend that you read the safety precautions listed for each oil before you craft the blend.
