How to Use

For Aromatherapy

Add about 4-5 drops of Iryasa Peppermint oil for every 100ml (3.3 fl.oz) of water in a diffuser. Its bright and refreshing scent works great as a mental stimulant to promote clarity and encourage positivity.

You may need to increase/decrease the number of drops depending on the size of the room and where your diffuser is kept. For instance, you'd probably need less number of drops for a smaller or less ventilated room. Since the intensity of scents are such a personal preference, we recommend that you start with less and work your way up as needed.

For Topical Application

Peppermint oil is an effective pain-reliever that is immensely helpful for tired and aching feet.

Dilute 4 drops of 100% pure Peppermint oil in 15ml (0.5 fl.oz) of Tamanu oil to make a 1% dilution and use as a massage oil.

Safety Precautions

General Precautions

  • All Iryasa Essential Oils are highly concentrated - always dilute with an appropriate carrier oil before topical use

  • Not for internal use, except if directed by an expert or a qualified practitioner

  • Never use undiluted essential oils near eyes or mucous membranes

  • Store in a cool, dark and dry place

  • Keep out of reach of children

  • If pregnant, lactating or under any medication, consult your physician before use

Specific to Peppermint Essential Oil

  • We always recommend performing a patch test, especially if you are using Peppermint oil for the first time on your skin
  • Do not use Peppermint oil in conjunction to homeopathic remedies and do not store this oil right next to them as it can act as an antidote
  • Do not apply peppermint oil on/near babies and children under 5 years as the essential oil may irritate the mucous membrane for some (although the risk is very low, it is better to be safe)

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the main chemical constituent of Peppermint?

Peppermint oil contains almost 40% menthol, which is a cyclic monoterpene alcohol. Monoterpenols give Peppermint oil the qualities of being antiseptic, antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral and an immune stimulant.

Why is Peppermint essential oil considered cooling and warming? Is that even possible?

Yes, it is! Soon after application, Peppermint oil constricts capillaries which leads to a cooling sensation. This is followed by a rubefacient effect which brings about a warming sensation.

Peppermint oil works great in muscle rubs and balms to soothe aches and pains.

Is Peppermint oil safe for everyone? Can it be used anytime of the day?

While it is an extremely popular oil, it is not for everyone.

Avoid using during pregnancy or on children under 5 years old.

Due to its cooling and stimulating nature, do not use just before bedtime.

Avoid this oil if you have an irregular heartbeat or glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency.

Peppermint Essential Oil Reviews

Dilution Guide

Most websites/blogs mention about diluting essential oils before topical application. While this is correct, it is not sufficient!

Use the guide below to get started on your DIY blending journey.

Interpreting the charts

Step 1: As per age group, please take note of the recommended and maximum dilution percentages.

Step 2: Based on the amount of carrier oil, you can find the corresponding number of essential oil drops to be used to achieve the dilution you require e.g., for 1% dilution in 30ml of carrier oil, use 8 drops of same/different essential oils.

Precautions

Always perform a 24 hour period patch test at the recommended dilution levels or lesser, as per the age group to check for any allergic reaction or skin sensitivities.

While the dilution percentages work for most of our essential oils, we strongly recommend that you read the safety precautions listed for each oil before you craft the blend.
