How to Use

For Aromatherapy

Freshen up your room while keeping bugs & insects at bay. Add about 5 drops of Iryasa Citronella essential oil for every 100ml (3.3 fl.oz) of water in a diffuser.

You may need to increase/decrease the number of drops depending on the size of the room and where your diffuser is kept. For instance, you'd probably need less number of drops for a smaller or less ventilated room. Since the intensity of scents are such a personal preference, we recommend that you start with less and work your way up as needed.

For Topical Application

When diluted with a suitable carrier oil such as Jojoba oil or Fractionated Coconut Oil, it can be used as a massage oil to improve skin health and promote wound healing. This blend can also act as a body rub to repel insects and mosquitoes.

We recommend using 16 drops of Iryasa Citronella essential oil in 30ml (1 fl.oz) carrier oil (to make ~2% dilution). For sensitive skin, use 8 drops in 30ml of carrier oil ( to make ~1% dilution).

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Citronella truly a mosquito repellent?

YES! Mosquitoes despise the scent of Citronella.

Which insects/bugs are repelled by citronella essential oil?

While this oil is popularly known as a mosquito repellent, Citronella also repels spiders, ticks, fleas, moths and gnats. Some research articles indicate Citronella’s ability to repel cockroaches, flies and ants too.

Are Citronella and Lemongrass the same?

No. While Citronella and Lemongrass are of the same genus (Cymbopogon) and they look similar, they are quite different in many ways. Dilution Guide

Most websites/blogs mention about diluting essential oils before topical application. While this is correct, it is not sufficient!

Use the guide below to get started on your DIY blending journey.

Interpreting the charts

Step 1: As per age group, please take note of the recommended and maximum dilution percentages.

Step 2: Based on the amount of carrier oil, you can find the corresponding number of essential oil drops to be used to achieve the dilution you require e.g., for 1% dilution in 30ml of carrier oil, use 8 drops of same/different essential oils.

Precautions

Always perform a 24 hour period patch test at the recommended dilution levels or lesser, as per the age group to check for any allergic reaction or skin sensitivities.

While the dilution percentages work for most of our essential oils, we strongly recommend that you read the safety precautions listed for each oil before you craft the blend.
