How to Use

For Aromatherapy

Set the mood for a cozy dinner at home with family & friends, especially during the holidays creating a warm and inviting environment. We recommend adding about 3-5 drops of Iryasa Cinnamon oil for every 100ml (3.3 fl.oz) of water in a diffuser.

You may need to increase/decrease the number of drops depending on the size of the room and where your diffuser is kept. For instance, you'd probably need less number of drops for a smaller or less ventilated room. Since the intensity of scents are such a personal preference, we recommend that you start with less and work your way up as needed.

For Topical Application

Cinnamon essential oil is a great addition to massage blends. Due to its therapeutic properties, it can help with infections such as toenail fungus.

Dilute the oil with a suitable carrier oil such as Jojoba oil or Sweet Almond oil; we recommend using 1 drop of Iryasa Cinnamon essential oil in 100ml (3.3 fl.oz) of carrier oil (to make ~0.03% dilution).

Safety Precautions

General Precautions

  • All Iryasa Essential Oils are highly concentrated - always dilute with an appropriate carrier oil before topical use

  • Not for internal use, except if directed by an expert or a qualified practitioner

  • Never use undiluted essential oils near eyes or mucous membranes

  • Store in a cool, dark and dry place

  • Keep out of reach of children

  • If pregnant, lactating or under any medication, consult your physician before use

Specific to Cinnamon Essential Oil

  • We always recommend performing a patch test, especially if you are using Cinnamon oil for the first time on your skin
  • For topical applications, use no more than 0.05% of Cinnamon bark oil in blends; if used undiluted, it may cause skin reactions such as burning and blistering

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between cinnamon bark oil and cinnamon leaf oil?

Cinnamon bark oil is significantly higher in cinnamaldehyde which gives cinnamon its signature scent. If you’re looking for the sweeter and spicier aroma, cinnamon bark oil is the clear choice. The higher levels of cinnamaldehyde makes the cinnamon bark oil a powerful antimicrobial, anti-viral and anti-fungal agent.

On the other hand, cinnamon leaf oil has higher eugenol content (an antiseptic and analgesic) making it ideal for pain relief.

Is it ok to ingest Cinnamon bark oil?

While all of Iryasa’s oils are medical grade and therapeutic, we recommend that you consult with your physician before ingesting essential oils. It is especially important to avoid ingesting cinnamon oil as it is known to react negatively with certain other medications that you may be taking.

May I use cinnamon bark oil directly on my skin?

No. The oil produced from the Cinnamon bark is high in cinnamaldehyde which can be extremely irritating to the skin. It may cause severe skin reactions such as blisters and a burning sensation. Always dilute it with an appropriate carrier oil to enjoy the scent and its beneficial properties.

Dilution Guide

Most websites/blogs mention about diluting essential oils before topical application. While this is correct, it is not sufficient!

Use the guide below to get started on your DIY blending journey.

Interpreting the charts

Step 1: As per age group, please take note of the recommended and maximum dilution percentages.

Step 2: Based on the amount of carrier oil, you can find the corresponding number of essential oil drops to be used to achieve the dilution you require e.g., for 1% dilution in 30ml of carrier oil, use 8 drops of same/different essential oils.

Precautions

Always perform a 24 hour period patch test at the recommended dilution levels or lesser, as per the age group to check for any allergic reaction or skin sensitivities.

While the dilution percentages work for most of our essential oils, we strongly recommend that you read the safety precautions listed for each oil before you craft the blend.
