How to Use

For Aromatherapy

Add about 4-5 drops of Iryasa Geranium oil for every 100ml (3.3 fl.oz) of water in a diffuser. This invigorating floral scent will alleviate feelings of stress, anxiety, tension, agitation and other negative emotions.

You may need to increase/decrease the number of drops depending on the size of the room and where your diffuser is kept. For instance, you'd probably need less number of drops for a smaller or less ventilated room. Since the intensity of scents are such a personal preference, we recommend that you start with less and work your way up as needed.

For Topical Application

Diluted with a suitable carrier oil such as Jojoba oil, Grapeseed oil or Sweet Almond oil, it makes an effective face oil to balance sebum production and help control acne.

We recommend using 8 drops of Iryasa Geranium essential oil in 30ml (1 fl.oz) of carrier oil to make a 1% dilution.

Safety Precautions

General Precautions

  • All Iryasa Essential Oils are highly concentrated - always dilute with an appropriate carrier oil before topical use

  • Not for internal use, except if directed by an expert or a qualified practitioner

  • Never use undiluted essential oils near eyes or mucous membranes

  • Store in a cool, dark and dry place

  • Keep out of reach of children

  • If pregnant, lactating or under any medication, consult your physician before use

Specific to Geranium Essential Oil

  • We always recommend performing a patch test, especially if you are using Geranium oil for the first time on your skin
  • Being stimulating in nature, Geranium oil is not recommended for use 1 hour before bedtime.

Frequently Asked Questions

Geranium essential oil smells like roses. Is Geranium a type of rose?

Geranium is not a part of the Rose family. However, during the steam distillation of these small pink flowers, a rose-like fragrance is released. The scents are so similar that sometimes Rose oils are ‘topped up’ with Geranium oil for a stronger, more "rose-like" scent.

I have oily skin! Can I use Geranium essential oil directly on my face?

No. Always dilute (all) essential oils before applying on your skin (topically). Jojoba Oil, Grapeseed oil or Sweet Almond oil are perfect carrier oils to dilute Geranium essential oil. Each of the carrier oils provide unique skin health benefits and they all make a perfect base for face oils.

Is Geranium oil the same as Geranium Extract?

No. While Geranium Extract is sometimes listed as “Geranium Oil” on ingredients lists of dietary supplements, Geranium Extract comes from the roots of the plant whereas Geranium Oil is from the flower of the plant.

Also, Geranium oil should not be ingested, especially when taking certain medications as it has been known to have negative reactions.

Dilution Guide

Most websites/blogs mention about diluting essential oils before topical application. While this is correct, it is not sufficient!

Use the guide below to get started on your DIY blending journey.

Interpreting the charts

Step 1: As per age group, please take note of the recommended and maximum dilution percentages.

Step 2: Based on the amount of carrier oil, you can find the corresponding number of essential oil drops to be used to achieve the dilution you require e.g., for 1% dilution in 30ml of carrier oil, use 8 drops of same/different essential oils.

Precautions

Always perform a 24 hour period patch test at the recommended dilution levels or lesser, as per the age group to check for any allergic reaction or skin sensitivities.

While the dilution percentages work for most of our essential oils, we strongly recommend that you read the safety precautions listed for each oil before you craft the blend.
